Teresa Sciberras is a visual artist working mainly in painting, drawing and collage. She was born in Ibadan, Nigeria, and studied at the University of Malta, Santa Reparata International School of Art in Florence and Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, Scotland. She holds a BA in Painting from Robert Gordon College in Aberdeen, a BA in English from the University of Malta and an MFA in Visual Arts (Painting) from the University of Malta in collaboration with Monash University, Melbourne. 

She is particularly interested in creating imaginary spaces assembled from fragments of her everyday life, using collage strategies to underpin her practice. Her most recent work plays with the construction and deconstruction of spatial illusion to speak about deception, concealment and the fragility of structures. 

Her work has been selected for several international exhibitions, including Homo Melitensis, the Maltese Pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale (2017), as well as the Biennale des Jeunes Createurs d’Europe et de la Mediterranee (Skopje, 2009); and New Contemporaries (The Royal Scottish Academy, 2008). 

In Malta, she has also participated in numerous exhibitions, such as Artists as Archivists (the Notarial Archives, Valletta, 2018), Bodyless (The Maritime Museum, Birgu, 2016), Good Walls Make Good Neighbours (Valletta International Festival of Visual Arts (VIVA), 2015), Relocation: Emerging Artists from Malta (Bank of Valletta, 2010) and A New Generation (Malta Contemporary Arts Foundation, 2010).

Previous solo exhibitions include Box Set (Casa Ellul, Valletta, 2019), Hortus Conclusus with Fragmenta Malta (2016) and Little White Lies (Malta National Museum of Fine Arts, 2012). 

Her work is held in public and private collections in Malta, the UK, the US, Belgium, Italy, France and Germany. These include the permanent collections of the European Parliament, the Royal Scottish Academy, The National Museum of Art (MUŻA), the American Embassy in Malta and the Maltese Embassy in Washington. Her work is also featured in The Public Catalogue Foundation, UK (ArtUK.org) and on the international platform for contemporary art, Ocula, where she is represented by the gallery Valletta Contemporary. She currently lives and works in Malta and teaches at the MCAST Institute for the Creative Arts.
