“Culture, art, and aesthetics are central to human well-being. Just as essential is a sustained engagement with natural environments, given that as human beings, we are part of the wider ecosystem. Therefore, the holistic well-being of human communities is also dependent on the quality of our engagement with the natural world beyond the boundaries of our bodies and the built environment we inhabit.
The urban garden is a human natural environment nexus with its own complexities and linkages. It supports urban biodiversity while encouraging new connections between meaning-making, physical space, and action in public space that spurs an ecological aesthetic of attachment.”
As part of the MICAS Education and Community Programming Strand (MEC), the Malta International Contemporary Art Space (MICAS) will be holding a conference on Saturday 24th of June 2023, at The National Museum of Archaeology in Valletta.
During this event, local and international speakers from various creative disciplines, academia, and other fields will be exploring the challenges of dense urbanisation and the role of the urban garden space as a connector to natural habitats and biodiversity in the city.
